VOITH聯(lián)軸器靠液體與泵輪、渦輪的葉片相互作用產(chǎn)生動(dòng)量矩的變化來傳遞扭矩。它的輸出扭矩等于輸入扭矩減去摩擦力矩，所以它的輸出扭矩恒小于輸入扭矩。 VOITH聯(lián)軸器輸入軸與輸出軸間靠液體聯(lián)系，工作構(gòu)件間不存在剛性聯(lián)接。液力偶合器的特點(diǎn)是：能消除沖擊和振動(dòng)；輸出轉(zhuǎn)速低于輸入轉(zhuǎn)速，兩軸的轉(zhuǎn)速差隨載荷的增大而增加；過載保護(hù)性能和起動(dòng)性能好，載荷過大而停轉(zhuǎn)時(shí)輸入軸仍可轉(zhuǎn)動(dòng)，不致造成動(dòng)力機(jī)的損壞；當(dāng)載荷減小時(shí)，輸出軸轉(zhuǎn)速增加直到接近于輸入軸的轉(zhuǎn)速，使傳遞扭矩趨于零。
